One hundred years ago Einstein predicted the existence of gravitational waves. In March, researchers at Harvard University claimed they had detected the waves for the first time. If true, it would be a big deal indeed. But now, it seems their calculations may have been clouded by dust from within the Milky Way. Paul Davies explains.
