The Runaway Universe

Since the middle of the nineteenth century it has been known that the universe is slowly dying. The notorious second law of thermodynamics predicts the inexorable degeneration of cosmic order. But it’s not all bad news. In this book I look at both big-picture cosmology and the future of life, previewing the currently fashionable notion of humans, or at lest terrestrial life, spreading out into the cosmos.
